WETT Inspections, Cleaning & Maintenance

WETT, or Wood Energy Technology Transfer, has been Canada's national registrar for wood burning systems since 1988. Certified professionals complete coursework, training and 80 weeks of hands-on experience, all to make sure wood systems are compliant, vent cleanly and stay well maintained. I inspect chimneys and stoves, clear creosote from venting, and service worn parts. I am your local certified professional, so let me know what you need dealt with.

Code & Compliance Checks

I do not certify wood heating systems myself. I inspect whether they comply with manufacturer specifications, carry the appropriate ULC certification and meet the CSA B365-10 installation code. If something is not compliant, you will know exactly what and why. Depending on what you need, I can submit a non-compliant report, or I can upgrade the system so it meets code and then do the report. Canadian insurance companies require a WETT inspection for coverage.

Chimney Cleaning & Maintenance

Sometimes a chimney gets blocked from wet wood or improper burning and needs cleaning right away, before a chimney fire starts. Even on a system that runs well, buildup happens gradually, so it is easy to put off until there is a problem. A yearly clean clears the creosote out of your chimney and flue, and while I am there I can service the stove if it needs it. Depending on your insurer, a yearly cleaning by a WETT certified professional may be a requirement. Whatever your situation, reach out and we will set a time.

How Cozy Can Help

Every wood heating system needs regular checks and cleaning to run safely season after season. Here is the inspection and maintenance work I handle.

WETT Inspections

A full check of your wood heating system against manufacturer specifications, ULC certification and the B365-10 installation code. You get a clear written record of whether the system is compliant and what needs attention if it is not.

Insurance Reports

The written WETT report from your inspection is what your insurance company requires for continued coverage. I am certified and insured to submit WETT reports on your behalf, so your policy has the paperwork it needs.

Chimney Cleaning

A season of burning leaves creosote in the flue, and that is what fires start from. I clean it back to safe, clear the pellet vent and liner systems too, and flag anything that needs a closer look before the cold sets in.

Stove Maintenance

Gaskets wear, seals leak and efficiency drops over time. I service wood and pellet stoves so they light easily, hold heat and burn clean, replacing the parts that are past their best before they cost you a harder repair.

Seasonal Maintenance

A yearly service keeps small issues from becoming winter emergencies. I clean and check the whole system ahead of the season so you are not caught out on the coldest night.

Pre-Sale Inspections

Selling a home with a wood stove usually means proving it is safe and up to code. I inspect the system and provide the report buyers and their insurers will ask for.

$315

A Level 1 WETT inspection, the readily accessible check most homes and insurers need, with the full report included.

$85

My hourly rate for Level 2 and 3 inspections, added to the base fee when a system needs a closer, more involved look.

$100

First-hour call-out for chimney and flue pipe cleaning and stove maintenance, then the $85 hourly rate after that.

FREE

Estimates on any installation or service work are free, so you know the cost before anything gets booked.

WETT Inspection & Service Pricing

Inspection pricing is fixed, so you know the cost before you book. A Level 1 check covers most homes and insurers, with Level 2 and 3 billed hourly on top when a system needs a closer look. Cleaning and maintenance run at a set call-out, and estimates on any work are free.

Why Choose Cozy Contracting

A wood heating system is worth having the right person look it over. I bring the WETT training your insurer looks for and the building experience to back it up, and I handle every inspection and clean myself. You will know exactly where your system stands and what, if anything, it needs.
